Latinx Heritage Month/Hispanic Serving Institution Week : Precious Knowledge and Q&A with Teacher Activist Jose Gonzalez

Precious Knowledge highlights one of the most contentious battles in public education in recent memory, the fight over Mexican American Studies (MAS) programs in Arizona public schools. The film interweaves the stories of several students enrolled in the Mexican American Studies Program at Tucson High School with interviews with teachers, parents, school officials, and the lawmakers who wish to outlaw courses designed for a particular ethnic group or that advocates ethnic solidarity. The film also raises questions for all educators about how we can more authentically speak to students’ lives in the curriculum.

Join us for a conversation about the program and the film with MAS high school teacher and activist Jose Gonzalez.
